About Me
Cory Hewitt - Owner/Operator, Designer, Woodworker, and General Contractor
Be like wood: strong yet flexible
This saying has become something of a personal philosophy for me and speaks to my capacity as a collaborator as well as a creator.
My love of woodworking began in childhood when I’d shape and sand small pieces of wood on the concrete sidewalks of my native Manhattan. Working with wood connected me to nature amidst a busy city. With time, I honed my skills in all areas of building & furniture. Even with 25+ years of experience, it’s still fascinating to me that a rough-textured tree can turn into a smooth and artistic piece of wood that invites peace and warmth if done right.
I am based in Albany, California, serving the San Francisco Bay area & beyond.

French Doors Repairs
I reached out to Cory because of issues I was having with my french doors. Cory began by coming by to take a look and give me a quote on the wor. This was an important step because although he was extremely professional and about business, Cory also took the time to get to know me better and develop a relationship. He took time to notice details about my home and ask really good questions. He told me to take time to think about any questions or concerns I might have and to then contact him to commit to next steps. Again, I appreciated this step because it took the pressure of committing on the spot away and gave me time to process the details.
When I was ready, I contacted him and we signed our agreement for the work. He showed up on time and ready to dive in. He was efficient and professional throughout the scope of the project yet still took time for brief and friendly chats here and there. The work was done to an excellent standard . Beyond that day, he checked in to be sure things were done to my satisfaction and assured me that if there were any problems he would be back to remedy them at no additional cost. I highly recommend working with Cory for your next construction/carpentry project and will do so myself when another project emerges for me.

Deck Project
I strongly recommend Cory Hewitt. Why? He is a master craftsman. He is an artisan and a technician. A contractor “extraordinaire.” Dedicated to his craft, customers, and making sure the job gets done right, and within the budget. He is a perfectionist in the very best sense.
Cory had to build a very complicated, large deck for my house in the Berkeley Hills. It required a lot of vision, math, measuring and engineering because it was built on top of a large, uneven boulder. The deck now provides views of the Bay. He incorporated a beautiful water feature. He also arranged all the outside lighting, and it looks great!
None of the area below the deck was level. In order for it to be level and safe, it took a lot of planning and precision on Cory’s part. Now the deck is the center-piece of our house, and its gorgeous. Everyone asks who built that deck and can I please have his name. Now you know. The secret is out.
